With weigh-ins set for tomorrow, preparations have already been made, the training and countless practices completed, there is only one thing left to do: compete fearlessly. From April 5th to April 7th, 2024, more than 40 Beat the Streets (BTS) athletes representing 5 BTS cities including: New York City, Cleveland, DC, Baltimore and New England, will compete in Virginia Beach at the esteemed 35th Annual High School Nationals tournament hosted by the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) and presented by ASICS

Since 2017, the NHSCA has partnered with Beat the Streets National to support the wrestling journeys of BTS student-athletes by providing excelling BTS wrestlers and coaches opportunities to test themselves and compete against high-level competition from across the country. NHSCA CEO Bobby Ferraro had the following to say about the BTS and NHSCA partnership, “The National High School Coaches Association is proud to provide opportunity for Beat the Street participants to compete against the country’s best at the High School Nationals. Our organization admires the mission and efforts of the cities and of those coaches impacting the lives of student-athletes with less opportunities.  We are honored to play a small part in providing a positive experience for the Beat the Streets participants.”

Last year more than 40 high school and middle school boys and girls, along with 12 coaches, represented 6 BTS Chapters (Baltimore, Lancaster, New England, New York, DC, Cleveland) and were provided the opportunity to compete and bond with fellow athletes in the 2023 NHSCA High School Nationals tournament. Among those 40 BTS athletes, nine earned All-American status at the tournament including BTS New York student-athletes Evin Gursoy, Amir Avazov and Xavier Giles, and Alessandra Elliot, BTS Cleveland athletes Brandon Caesar and Trent Thomas, BTS New England athletes Maurice Cooper and Israel Perez, and BTS Baltimore student-athlete Ugochi Anunobi. Evin, Amir, Xavier and Ugochi will be returning to the tournament again this year to compete for a title!

Tune into the action this weekend on FloWrestling and cheer on our BTS athletes! If you are personally traveling to the tournament, don’t miss your chance to stop by the ASICS booth for a meet and greet with Asics athletes!
