Beat the Streets Chicago student athlete, Roy Phelps, was recently featured on a special segment on CBS News. Phelps admits before joining Beat the Streets, he believed wrestling was only done on WWE–a common misconception among society. With pain in his eyes, as he held back his tears, Phelps went on to share two of his closest friends were killed by gun violence and that drove him to get involved with the organization, “I want to be better than I was at the beginning of the day and I thought wrestling was a way to get me there.” This heartfelt testimony shared just a glimpse of the work done at Beat the Streets chapters across the nation to help student athletes like Roy Phelps. The segment also highlighted the Beat the Streets Duals held this past June in which 10 chapters from across the nation joined together for clinics, seminars, team building activities and the inaugural Beat the Streets National Dual Championship.
